Volunteer Information

Providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff is a district priority.  In keeping with this standard, the Board of Education has adopted policies and regulations governing the volunteer process.

Visitors

The district welcomes and encourages visits to school by parents, other adult residents and interested educators.  Board of Education Policy 9150 provides additional details related to school visitors.

Visitors are required to check in using the SchoolSAFEid kiosk when entering the building.

A visitor will scan his or her driver’s license or valid state-issued ID at the kiosk, which will compare name and date of birth to the national database of registered sex offenders. Once approved, the kiosk will then print an identification sticker, with the date and time, for the volunteer/visitor to wear while on school grounds. The entire process takes a matter of seconds.

Volunteers

The district recognizes certain programs and activities can be enhanced through the use of volunteers who have particular knowledge or skills that will be helpful to members of the professional staff responsible for those programs and activities.

Most volunteer services are conducted under the supervision of a staff member and thus requires checking in, using a valid driver’s license or state-issued ID, with the SchoolSAFEid kiosk at the building.

In some cases, where a volunteer who is regularly with students, and without direct supervision of a staff member, the volunteer will be required to complete a full BCI/FBI background check and be approved by the Board of Education.  BCI/FBI services are available at the district's Mincy Center, 1619 Zollinger Road. (Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; closed for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.) There is no cost to volunteers. Volunteers are approved seasonally and/or annually, depending on the need. If service is continual, the BCI/FBI background check is valid for five years. Volunteers may also be asked to secure a Pupil Activity Permit through the Ohio Department of Education.
